Booking conditions
Last updated:
These conditions apply to every Work & Surf Canarias stay. Please read them carefully before applying. If you are selected, you will sign a Stay Agreement with us. By signing it and paying, you accept these conditions in full.
1. Who we are
Work & Surf Canarias is a brand of Focotech Innova SL, NIF B23948086, with registered address at CL. Covadonga, 78 - 35010 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas. You can contact us at [email protected].
Holiday rental registration numbers: Canary Islands regional register VV-35-1-0020266. Spain national register ESFCTU0000350080000123880000000000000VV-35-1-00202668.
Our stays take place in a private house in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a few minutes’ walk from the surf area of Las Canteras beach.
2. How to book
Work & Surf stays are by application only.
- Apply. Fill in the application form on our website. Applying is free and does not create a booking.
- Review. We check availability for your month and how your profile fits with the rest of the group, so the house has a balanced mix of people. We may accept or decline any application without giving a reason.
- Confirmation. If you are selected, we send you a booking offer by email. To accept it, you provide your ID or passport details and home address, sign the Stay Agreement electronically during the payment process and pay the full price within the deadline stated in the offer. For shared rooms, both guests sign.
- Booking confirmed. Your booking is only confirmed once all guests have signed the Stay Agreement and we have received the full payment. If either is not received in time, the offer expires and the room may be offered to another applicant.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Shared rooms are paid in full by the person who makes the booking.
Your Stay Agreement: your stay is governed by the Stay Agreement you sign, including its annexes, and by the booking offer. These conditions summarise its main terms. If there is any contradiction, the Stay Agreement prevails over the booking offer and over these conditions. Once all parties have signed, each guest receives a copy of the Stay Agreement in PDF by email.
After selection, some guests may choose to complete their booking through Airbnb. In that case, Airbnb’s own terms also apply to payment and cancellation.
3. Stays, prices and payment
Each stay lasts one full month. All guests arrive on the 1st of the month and leave on the last day of that month, so the group starts and ends together.
| Room type | Room price/month |
|---|---|
| Private room (1 person) | €4,000 |
| Shared room (2 people travelling together) | €6,000 |
Prices include all applicable taxes.
Included:
- One month’s accommodation in a double room with its own desk, in a fully furnished and equipped house
- A 1-hour surf lesson Monday to Friday with a local instructor, at 8:00 or 12:30 (you choose your slot when applying)
- Your own surfboard and wetsuit for the whole stay
- Utilities, high-speed WiFi and cleaning (common areas daily, rooms weekly, bed linen and towels changed weekly)
- Full use of the kitchen, patio and rooftop
Not included: flights, airport transfers, meals, travel insurance and any activity not listed above.
Payment: the full price is paid when you confirm your booking, by the payment method indicated in the booking offer.
Security deposit: each guest pays a €300 security deposit together with the price of the stay. We refund it in full within 14 days after check-out, as long as you return the surfboard and wetsuit and have not caused any damage to the house, its furniture or equipment. If there is loss or damage, we deduct its cost from the deposit and explain the deduction to you.
4. Cancellations and refunds
Cancellation by the guest: bookings are non-refundable. Once your booking is confirmed and paid, it cannot be cancelled, changed to another month or refunded, in whole or in part. This also applies if you arrive late, leave early or do not show up. Because the stay is an accommodation service for specific dates, the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts does not apply.
We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers cancellation.
Cancellation by us: we may cancel a stay, for example if the house cannot be used or for reasons beyond our control. In that case, we refund the full amount you have paid within 14 days. We have no other liability or obligation to pay compensation.
Replacing a guest: if you cannot travel, you may ask us to transfer your booking to another person. We will review that person as a new applicant and are not obliged to accept.
5. Surf lessons
- Lessons run Monday to Friday and are adapted to each guest’s level, from complete beginner to experienced surfer.
- Your instructor decides whether sea and weather conditions are safe. If a lesson cannot take place, we will try to reschedule it at another time that same day. If that is not possible, the lesson is cancelled without a refund or discount.
- Public holidays may affect the schedule. We will let you know in advance.
- You must be able to swim and must follow the instructor’s safety instructions at all times.
- Surfing carries an inherent risk of injury. You take part at your own risk and confirm you are in good health to do so.
- You are responsible for the board and wetsuit given to you and must return them in the same condition, apart from normal wear. Loss or damage caused by misuse may be charged to you.
6. During your stay
Check-in and check-out: self check-in on the 1st of the month with no time limit. Check-out is on the last day of the month at 11:00. We will send you access instructions before arrival.
House rules:
- The rooftop closes at 22:00.
- Keep noise moderate from 22:00, and keep the living room windows closed from 23:00.
- Treat the house, your housemates and the neighbours with respect.
- Only registered guests may stay overnight.
- No smoking indoors, no parties and no pets.
Serious or repeated breaches of these rules may lead to the end of your stay without a refund.
Damage: you are responsible for any damage you cause to the house, its furniture or equipment beyond normal wear. We may deduct the cost of repair or replacement from your security deposit and charge you any amount above it.
Personal belongings: we are not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of personal belongings, unless caused by our negligence.
Support: a member of our team is available for questions and issues throughout your stay.
Optional activities: beach games and other group activities are optional and at your own risk.
7. Guest registration and data protection
Spanish law requires us to register every guest with the authorities. For this reason, selected guests must provide valid ID or passport details before arrival. We handle all personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Applicable law and disputes
These conditions are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence, and you may bring a claim before the courts of your place of residence or those of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to solve it. Official complaint forms (hojas de reclamación) are available on request.
